Privacy policy
Version 1, in effect from 24 October 2026
AskBell helps businesses and people ask questions and collect answers: surveys, feedback forms, polls, quizzes and reviews. This page explains what we keep about you, why, and what you can do about it.
There are two kinds of people here, and we treat their data differently:
- Account holders — the businesses and people who sign in and make forms. For their accounts we decide what is kept, and we are responsible for it.
- Respondents — the people who answer a form. Their answers belong to the business that asked. We keep and process them only for that business, on its instructions, as its processor.
What we keep about account holders
- Your email address or phone number, used to sign you in with a one-time code. We never ask for a password.
- Your name, if you give it, and the name of your business.
- The forms you make, and your settings.
- If you buy a plan: what you bought and when. Card and bank details go straight to the payment company (Razorpay in India, Stripe elsewhere); we never see or keep them.
- Basic technical records (when you signed in, from which network) to keep accounts safe.
- Which version of each of our documents (our terms of use, this privacy policy and, for businesses, the data processing agreement) you accepted, when, in which language, and from which app: the website, the iPhone or Android app, or our API. With it we keep a coded form of your network address (a keyed hash, not the address itself, so it cannot be used to find you) and the first 200 characters of your browser's or app's identification. This lets you and us show what was agreed. When we publish a version that changes something important, we ask you again and record that too.
- In the phone app, if you say yes when it asks: anonymous statistics on which screens and buttons are used (Google Analytics for Firebase), to make the app better. No name, email or business, no form or answer, and no advertising identifier. Switch it off in the app at any time.
- In the phone app: a token from Google's or Apple's notification service, so bad-feedback alerts reach your phone.
- In the browser extension (Chrome, Edge, Firefox): it uses your sign-in to show your forms, and sends us only what you ask it to: the text you select for "Make a poll from this", and, for page feedback, a screenshot of the page you are on with its address, its title and your note, kept privately for your business's team. It keeps two settings on your device (the business you chose, and whether alert notifications are on). No analytics and no usage statistics.
What we keep about respondents
- The answers you give, and anything the form's link carried (for example a table number).
- The language you used and when you answered.
- Photos or files you add, if a form asks for them. They are stored privately in AskBell's storage at Cloudflare (R2), never on a public link: only the business's own team can open them, after signing in. Photos are shrunk on your phone before they are sent, which also removes the camera's hidden details such as the location. A photo or file you add but do not send is deleted within two days; the ones you send are deleted with the form's answers.
- If the form thanks people with an offer that has a personal code: the code, when it was given, and whether and when the business marked it used. It is kept with your answers and deleted with them.
- A spam check (Cloudflare Turnstile) runs when you submit. It tells us whether a person sent the form; we keep only its yes or no.
- Replies from the business, only if the form asked whether the business may contact you, you said yes, and you gave an email address (or opened a private form with your email). The business can then email you a reply through AskBell. To send it we use your address and the text the business wrote; we keep that text, who at the business sent it and when, and a scrambled form (a hash) of your address, so that "don't contact me again" keeps working. The email comes from AskBell's address with the business's name on it; if you answer it, your answer goes straight to the business, not to us. Every reply has a link to stop further replies from that business, for good.
We do not ask respondents to sign in. We do not sell answers, and we never send them to advertising or analytics companies.
A business can choose to send its own forms' answers on to places it sets up itself: its own systems (a webhook or our API), a Slack channel, or a Google Sheet. We send them only to the destinations the business configures, and only while it keeps them switched on. Those destinations are the business's choice and under its control, not our sub-processors; the business's own privacy notice covers what happens there.
Who helps us
- Cloudflare — hosting, databases, storage, email delivery, spam checks, and "Translate with AI" (a form's own texts, never respondents' answers), which runs on Cloudflare's own AI service and is not used to train AI models. Data is stored in Cloudflare's Asia-Pacific region where possible. See Sub-processors.
- Razorpay and Stripe — payments, if you buy a plan.
- Google — if you choose to sign in with Google; in the phone app, Firebase delivers alerts and, only with your yes, counts anonymous usage.
- MSG91 and Meta (WhatsApp) — to send sign-in codes and alerts, if you use them.
- Destinations a business sets up — if a business connects its forms to its own systems, Slack or Google Sheets (Integrations), we send its answers there, and nowhere else, on its instruction.
How long we keep it
- Answers stay as long as the business keeps the form. A deleted form and its answers are kept for 30 days, so a mistake can be undone, and then erased, with any photos and files sent with them, and any replies sent about them.
- A "don't contact me again" stays as long as the business has an account with us, so that it keeps working.
- Your account stays until you delete it. Daily backups are kept for 30 days.
- The record of which documents you accepted stays as long as your account. When you delete the account it is deleted too; our audit log keeps only that a document version was accepted, with nothing that names you.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or erase your data, and to withdraw consent, by writing to the address below. If you answered a form, the business that asked is in charge of your answers: ask them first. We will help them do what you ask.
Children
AskBell is not for children to sign up to. Forms for children (for example in schools) should be answered by a parent, or with a parent's consent.
